Voyage highlights
On this eight-night island-hopping voyage between the Canary Islands, which will start and end in Gran Canaria, you’ll develop transferrable skills, gain increased confidence and build resilience, as well as making new friends and creating lifelong memories!
A 4.5-hour flight from London will take you to Gran Canaria, which is central to the Canary Islands. The group of volcanic islands is situated in the Atlantic Ocean off the West coast of Morocco and Western Sahara.
The Canary Islands boast a subtropical climate all-year-round, even in the months between November and February, the weather is mainly sunny and warm, with minimum temperatures of 18 degrees and sea temperatures of around 22 degrees.
On board, you’ll meet like-minded individuals and join together as one crew – living and working on board, while spending full days sailing on board our Challenger yacht.
Sailing around the Canary Islands will bring you to a new and challenging sailing environment, with exhilarating sailing between the varied coastlines and landscapes of the islands, which have long been enjoyed by sailors for their stronger winds in the acceleration zones in between.
Take advantage of our winter-sun early bird promotions. Prices will rise on 1 Feb 2025 and 1 May 2025.
- Super early bird: Price discounted by 20% and will rise on 1 Feb 2025
- Early bird: Price discounted by 15% and will rise on 1 May 2025
Secure your early bird booking with 30% deposit. Full payment is required eight weeks before the voyage start date.
The Canary Islands are all geographically unique due to their position in the Atlantic and their volcanic origins. Home to a diverse range of landscapes and terrains, you’ll have the opportunity to discover sand dunes, rock formations, lava beaches, waterfalls, volcanoes, and caves, which can be explored at your leisure, on the days not spent at sea.
There are at least 50 nautical miles of picturesque sailing between the islands, so after each full day’s sailing, you’ll most likely have a free day to make the most of these remarkable islands.
Possible stopovers include Tenerife, La Palma, La Gomera and El Hierro to the west, or Fuerteventura and Lanzarote to the east. You may also visit the south coast of Gran Canaria with port stops like Puerto Rico and Puerto Mogan.
Independence. Resilience. Decision-making abilities. Lasting memories.
Throughout the week, you’ll experience plenty of opportunities to helm the yacht and enjoy some night and offshore sailing, as well as building proficiency in sail handling, ropework, passage planning and onboard safety.
In your watches, you’ll take responsibility for all aspects of sailing the Challenger, from deck duties to cooking and cleaning, under the expert guidance of the TSYT Crew.
This voyage is a great way to explore new places, with plenty of time to reflect on your personal development.
Each crew member will receive a personal assessment covering their leadership, teamwork and communication skills — a great addition to your CV!
The full voyage cost is £920; however, thanks to generous funding aimed at supporting the ongoing development of young people who have previously voyaged with us, as well as those eager to join, we can offer a bursary that will significantly reduce the cost. Do apply to see if you qualify.
Additionally, you have the option to pay a 30% deposit when you book early. The full balance is due 8 weeks before the voyage starts. For details, please contact our Reservations Team.
During this voyage, you will work towards achieving your RYA Competent Crew certificate.
