Join Tall Ships Youth Trust (TSYT) on a Voyage of Exploration from Plymouth to Swansea and realise your full potential.

This voyage is a perfect introduction to sailing so don’t worry if you have don’t have any prior experience on the water – we’ll support you to build your skills throughout this four-night voyage.

As soon as you board our 72ft Challenger yacht in Plymouth, you’ll have the opportunity to meet new people and explore the ocean environment together. The voyage will also focus on supporting you in the development of key skills like teamwork and communication and by the time you finish the voyage in Swansea, you’ll feel your confidence grow not just in sailing, but in yourself.

You will also work towards achieving your RYA Start Yachting qualification, and you can use this voyage to complete the residential section of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Gold Award.

Places you’ll visit

Starting the voyage by sailing out of Plymouth, you’ll explore Southwest England’s stunning coastline, with potential stops in Fowey and Falmouth, you may also see Land’s End on your journey around the most westerly point of mainland England.

From there, you’ll head out into the Celtic Sea before crossing the Bristol Channel, where you may have the opportunity to anchor off Lundy Island before finishing your Voyage of Exploration in Swansea.

Takeaways from your sailing adventure

New skills. Increased confidence. New friendships. Lifelong memories.

Throughout the week, you’ll build experience in the fundamentals of sailing, including steering, sail handling, ropework and onboard safety. You may also get to do some night sailing if conditions permit.

We divide the crew into two teams (watches) and in your watches, you’ll take it in turns to be involved in all aspects of sailing the Challenger – from deck duties to cooking and cleaning.

Each crew member will receive a personal assessment covering their leadershipteamwork and communication skills— a great addition to your CV.
