Voyage highlights

For young people who have been recommended to sail as an Assistant Watch Leader or Trainee Watch Leader
Intensive course with plenty of hands-on training
Develop your sailing, youth work, team building, leadership and safety awareness skills
Meals, drinks and plenty of snacks are included

This two-night training course is open to anyone aged 12 – 17 who has been recommended for a Watch Assistant or Trainee Watch Leader role. You will be introduced to the skills and competencies framework that makes up the TSYT training pathway and begin to develop the key skills needed to run a watch effectively.

This is an intensive course based in the Solent on board one of our Challenger yachts. You will join on Friday evening for dinner and safety briefings, while getting to know your fellow crew. There is a lot to cover, so expect early starts and a mix of practical training and evening debrief sessions, with a possible overnight stay in Cowes or a night at anchor on Saturday. You will return to Portsmouth on Sunday in good time for a thorough boat clean and individual debrief and feedback sessions.

While every effort will be made to deliver the above voyage content, sometimes adjustments need to be made to suit the weather conditions and the training needs of the crew.

By the end of the course, you will be equipped with the necessary skills, confidence, and knowledge to begin your TSYT Watch Leader journey.

Meals on board are provided, including dinner on the Friday evening, as are a plentiful supply of hot and cold drinks and snacks.
