Join Tall Ships Youth Trust for an immersive sailing adventure where you can make new friends, explore the ocean environment and develop life skills.
You do not require any previous sailing experience to join this four-night Voyage of Exploration on board our 55ft Ketch – our TSYT crew will teach you the core skills along the way.
Throughout the voyage, you’ll be able to build your social and communication skills on the water. This is an experience like no other where you’ll have the opportunity to develop your confidence and self-esteem, while also making new friendships and memories that will last a lifetime.
You will also work towards achieving your RYA Start Yachting qualification: the first step on your sailing qualifications journey.
You’ll sail through the Solent before heading out along the south coast. You may spot dolphins, seals and fin whales along the way, so don’t forget your camera. Likely stopovers include Cowes, Poole and Weymouth.
New skills. Increased confidence. New friendships. Lifelong memories.
Throughout the week, you’ll build experience in the fundamentals of sailing, including steering, sail handling, ropework and onboard safety. You may also get to do some night sailing if conditions permit.
We divide the crew into two teams (watches) and in your watches, you’ll take it in turns to be involved in all aspects of sailing the Challenger – from deck duties to cooking and cleaning.
Each crew member will receive a personal assessment covering their leadership, teamwork and communication skills— a great addition to your CV.
The cost of your RYA Start Yachting certificate is included in the price. RYA logbooks are available for purchase onboard at a cost of £6 (Skippers are only able to take cash for this).
The Skipper will determine the final route depending on weather and other variables.
There’s a possibility you could be recommended by the Skipper to come back and volunteer with Tall Ships Youth Trust voyages, ask your TSYT crew to find out more.
Meals on board are included.
