Ideal starter voyage sailing onboard a 72ft Challenger
Achieve your RYA Start Yachting qualification
Develop your confidence and self-esteem while having fun!

This five-day immersive sailing adventure is perfect for your 12-15-year-old to build their confidence, resilience and life skills, while making new friends and exploring our ocean environment.

As a TSYT ‘Voyage of Exploration’ you do not require any prior sailing experience. The voyage will enable you to explore the ocean environment whilst learning new skills, developing your confidence and self-esteem, and increasing your social and communication skills.

They can also achieve their RYA Start Yachting certificate, which will make a great addition to your personal record of achievement.

Places you'll visit

You’ll sail through the Solent and then along the stunning south coast. Be sure to have your camera to hand, as you may spot dolphins, seals and fin whales. Likely stopovers include CowesPoole  and Weymouth.

Takeaways from your sailing adventure

New skills. Increased confidence. Self-esteem. New friendships.

Throughout the week, you’ll experience steering a yacht, sail handling, ropework as well as learning how to keep safe onboard.  If conditions permit, you’ll also get to do some night sailing too.

We divide the crew into two teams (watches) – traditionally, known as Port and Starboard. In your watches, you’ll take it in turns to be involved in all aspects of sailing the Challenger from looking after her to cooking and cleaning.

Each crew member will receive a personal assessment covering their leadershipteamwork and communication skills.

RYA

The cost of your RYA Competent Crew certificate is included in the price.

RYA logbooks are available for purchase onboard at a cost of £6 (Skippers are only able to take cash for this).

Further information

The Skipper will determine the route depending on weather and conditions.

There’s a possibility you could be recommended by the Skipper to come back and volunteer as a Watch Assistant or Watch Leader for future Tall Ships Youth Trust voyages.

Meals onboard are included.
