Voyage highlights

Add adventure into your February half-term with an immersive and challenging voyage.
Learn core sailing skills on board our iconic 72ft Challenger yacht
Explore the ocean environment with new, like-minded individuals
Increase your confidence and develop social and communication skills
Achieve your RYA Start Yachting qualification

Experience half-term like never before by joining the Tall Ships Youth Trust for an exhilarating voyage along the south coast.

Spend five amazing days on the water onboard one of our ocean going yachts. You’ll learn essential sailing skills and experience a taste of what life on the ocean is really like.

No prior sailing experience is needed for this ‘Voyage of Exploration’. It’s the perfect introduction to sailing—just bring your enthusiasm, sense of adventure, and a willingness to learn!  Exploration voyages are the first step of our 3 voyage journey to Empowerment and Leadership voyages.

Our voyages are a great way to build up your confidence and self-esteem, as well as creating new, lasting friendships, exploring the ocean environment and developing social and communication skills.

On this voyage, you will also work towards achieving your RYA Start Yachting qualification: the first step on your sailing qualifications journey.

Places you’ll visit

You’ll sail through the Solent, before exploring the stunning south coast. You may spot dolphins along the way! Likely port visits may include Cowes, Yarmouth, Pooleand Weymouth.

Takeaways from your sailing adventure

New skills. Increased confidence. New friendships. Lasting memories.

Over the course of your voyage, you’ll learn about and practice sailing essentials including steering the yacht as well as sail handling, ropework and how to keep safe on board. If conditions are suitable, you may also get to do some night sailing.

We divide the crew into two teams (watches) – traditionally, known as Port and Starboard. In your watches, you’ll take it in turns to be involved in all aspects of sailing the Challenger – from deck duties to cooking and cleaning.

Each crew member will receive a personal assessment covering their leadership, teamwork and communicationskills – a great addition to your CV.

RYA

The cost of your RYA Start Yachting certificate is included in the price. RYA logbooks are available for purchase onboard at a cost of £6 (Skippers are only able to take cash for this).

Duke of Edinburgh

All voyages of four nights or more qualify for residential section of the DofE Gold Award. Please let our Reservations Team know before sailing if you want to use the voyage for this.

Further information

The Skipper will determine the final route depending on weather and other variables.

There’s a possibility you could be recommended by the Skipper to come back and volunteer as a Training Watch Leader for future Tall Ships Youth Trust voyages.

Meals on board are included.
