Voyage highlights
This six-day sailing adventure is the perfect way for your 12-15-year-old to end their summer holidays!
In readiness for a new school year, they’ll have the chance to build their confidence, resilience and life skills, while making new friends and exploring our ocean environment.
As a TSYT ‘Voyage of Exploration’ you do not require any prior experience of sailing. The voyage will enable the crew to explore the ocean environment whilst learning new skills, developing confidence and self-esteem, and increasing social and communication skills.
They can also achieve their RYA Start Yachting certificate, which will make a great addition to their personal record of achievement.
You’ll sail through the Solent and then along the stunning South Coast. Be sure to have your camera to hand, as you may spot dolphins, seals and fin whales.
Likely stopovers include Cowes, Poole and Weymouth.
New skills. Increased confidence. Self-esteem. New friendships.
Throughout the week, you’ll experience steering a yacht, sail handling, ropework as well as learning how to keep safe onboard. If conditions permit, you’ll also get to do some night sailing too.
We divide the crew into two teams (watches) – traditionally, known as Port and Starboard. In your watches, you’ll take it in turns to be involved in all aspects of sailing our ketch from looking after her to cooking and cleaning.
Each crew member will receive a personal assessment covering their leadership, teamwork and communication skills.
You’ll hopefully get the chance to complete your RYA Start Yachting qualification while you’re onboard.
The cost of your RYA Start Yachting certificate is included in the price. RYA logbooks are available for purchase onboard at a cost of £6 (Skippers are only able to take cash for this).
The Skipper will determine the final route depending on weather and other variables.
There’s a possibility you could be recommended by the Skipper to come back and volunteer as a Watch Assistant or Watch Leader for future Tall Ships Youth Trust voyages.
Meals onboard are included.
