Voyage highlights
Make it a New Year’s Eve to remember and sail into 2024 on this four-night adventure voyage with Tall Ships Youth Trust.
It’s the perfect starter voyage to learn the basics of sailing and work towards and achieve your RYA Start Yachting qualification.
What’s more, the voyage qualifies for the residential section of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Gold Award, if this is something you’ve being looking to complete this year!
As a TSYT ‘Voyage of Exploration’ you do not require any prior experience of sailing. The voyage will enable crew members to explore the ocean environment while learning new skills, developing confidence and self-esteem, and increasing social and communication skills.
You’ll sail through the Solent and then along the stunning south coast. Be sure to have your camera to hand, as you may spot dolphins, seals and fin whales. Likely stopovers include Cowes, Poole and Weymouth.
New skills. Increased confidence. New friendships. Memories.
Throughout the week, you’ll experience steering the yacht, sail handling, ropework as well as learning how to keep safe on board. If conditions permit, you’ll also get to do some night sailing too.
We divide the crew into two teams (watches) – traditionally, known as Port and Starboard. In your watches, you’ll take it in turns to be involved in all aspects of sailing the Challenger from deck duties to cooking and cleaning.
Each crew member will receive a personal assessment covering their leadership, teamwork and communication skills— a great addition to your personal record of achievement and CV.
You may get the chance to complete the RYA Start Yachting course while on board.
The cost of your RYA certificate is included in the price.
RYA logbooks are available for purchase on board at a cost of £6 (Skippers are only able to take cash for this).
All our voyages of four nights or more qualify for the residential section of the DofE Gold Award.
Please let our Reservations Team know before sailing if you want to use the voyage for this.
The Skipper will determine the final route depending on weather and other variables.
If you share our values and are keen to do more, you may be able to support our mission further by joining the TSYT Volunteer Crew.
Your Skipper can recommend you for our Watch Leader training programme, if they feel you have the skills and attributes that we’re looking for.
Meals on board are included.
