Voyage highlights
Celebrate the February half-term by embarking on a life-changing adventure at sea with Tall Ships Youth Trust.
Across four nights on board one of our iconic 72ft Challenger yachts, you’ll learn the basics of sailing and experience every aspect of life at sea.
This TSYT ‘Voyage of Exploration’ is perfect for absolute beginners, as you do not need to have any prior experience of sailing before boarding.
As you sail along the South Coast, you’ll make new friends and explore the ocean environment together. Throughout the voyage, you’ll have the opportunity to develop your confidence and self-esteem, while building your social and communication skills.
You will also work towards achieving your RYA Start Yachting qualification: the first step on your sailing qualifications journey.
Your voyage will start with a sail through the Solent, before you head out along the stunning south coast. Be sure to pack a camera as you may spot dolphins, seals and fin whales along the way. Likely stopovers include Cowes, Poole and Weymouth.
New skills. Increased confidence. New friendships. Lasting memories.
Over the course of your voyage, you’ll learn about and practice sailing essentials including steering the yacht as well as sail handling, ropework and how to keep safe on board. If conditions are suitable, you may also get to do some night sailing.
We divide the crew into two teams (watches) – traditionally, known as Port and Starboard. In your watches, you’ll take it in turns to be involved in all aspects of sailing the Challenger – from deck duties to cooking and cleaning.
Each crew member will receive a personal assessment covering their leadership, teamwork and communication skills— a great addition to your CV.
The cost of your RYA Start Yachting certificate is included in the price. RYA logbooks are available for purchase onboard at a cost of £6 (Skippers are only able to take cash for this).
The Skipper will determine the final route depending on weather and other variables.
There’s a possibility you could be recommended by the Skipper to come back and volunteer as a Trainee Watch Leader for future Tall Ships Youth Trust voyages.
Meals on board are included.
