Voyage highlights
Happy holidays! Are you working towards your Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award and looking for a residential adventure to get it ticked off? Or perhaps you’re just looking for something exciting to do this Christmas?
Then this four-night trip along the south coast could be exactly what you’re looking for.
It’s the perfect starter voyage to get to grips with the basics of sailing and achieve your RYA Start Yachting qualification. And the experience qualifies for the residential section of the Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award.
It’s also a great experience for you to learn new skills, gain increased confidence and create lifelong memories.
As well as improving your skills, you’ll enjoy celebrating all things festive with a Christmas singalong and mince pies on offer!
You’ll sail through the Solent and then along the stunning south coast. Be sure to have your camera to hand, as you may spot dolphins, seals and fin whales. Likely stopovers include Cowes, Poole and Weymouth.
New skills. Increased confidence. New friendships. Memories.
Throughout the week, you’ll experience steering a yacht, sail handling, ropework as well as learning how to keep safe onboard. If conditions permit, you’ll also get to do some night sailing too.
We divide the crew into two teams (watches) – traditionally, known as Port and Starboard. In your watches, you’ll take it in turns to be involved in all aspects of sailing the Challenger from looking after her to cooking and cleaning.
Each crew member will receive a personal assessment covering their leadership, teamwork and communication skills— a great addition to your personal record of achievement.
You may get the chance to complete your RYA Start Yachting qualification while you’re onboard.
The cost of your RYA Start Yachting certificate is included in the price. RYA logbooks are available for purchase onboard at a cost of £6 (Skippers are only able to take cash for this).
All voyages of four nights or more qualify for the DofE Gold Residential award. Please let our Reservations Team know before sailing if you want to use the voyage for this.
The Skipper will determine the final route depending on weather and other variables.
There’s a possibility you could be recommended by the Skipper to come back and volunteer as a Watch Assistant or Watch Leader for future Tall Ships Youth Trust voyages.
Meals onboard are included.
If you or the person you’re booking for, is unable to take part in this voyage due to any of the following:
- The area you’re travelling from, or to, has issued a COVID travel ban
- You test positive for coronavirus (and can supply proof)
- You’re asked to self-isolate (and can supply proof)
We’ll offer you a credit that can be used as payment, or part payment, for a future reservation booked within six months from the date of cancellation. For more information, please contact: reservations@tallships.org
