Develop your confidence, self-esteem and crucial life skills
Work towards achieving your RYA Start Yachting qualification

Spend your Easter Bank Holiday with Tall Ships Youth Trust (TSYT) and realise your full potential on a Voyage of Exploration.

This three-night voyage is a perfect introduction to sailing so don’t worry if you have don’t have any prior experience at sea – we’ll support you to build your skills as soon as you step on board our 72ft Challenger yacht in Plymouth.

Throughout the long weekend, you’ll have the opportunity to meet new people and explore the ocean environment together. The voyage will also focus on supporting you in the development of key skills like teamwork and communication.

By the time you finish the voyage back in Plymouth, you’ll have worked towards achieving your RYA Start Yachting qualification and you’ll feel your confidence grow not just in sailing, but in yourself.

Places you’ll visit

Starting the voyage by sailing out of Plymouth, you’ll explore Southwest England’s stunning coastline, with potential stops in Salcombe, Fowey or Dartmouth. You may also have the opportunity to anchor off Cawsand before finishing your Voyage of Exploration back in Plymouth.

Takeaways from your sailing adventure

New skills. Increased confidence. New friendships. Lifelong memories.

Throughout the week, you’ll build experience in the fundamentals of sailing, including steering, sail handling, ropework and onboard safety. You may also get to do some night sailing if conditions permit.

We divide the crew into two teams (watches) and in your watches, you’ll take it in turns to be involved in all aspects of sailing the Challenger – from deck duties to cooking and cleaning.

Each crew member will receive a personal assessment covering their leadershipteamwork and communication skills— a great addition to your CV.

Further information

The Skipper will determine the final route depending on weather and other variables.

There’s a possibility you could be recommended by the Skipper to come back and volunteer with Tall Ships Youth Trust voyages, ask your TSYT crew to find out more.

Meals on board are included.
