Up to £210
Join us on this six-day voyage from Portsmouth to the Channel Islands and back.
Meet like-minded individuals aged from 16 to 25, and learn new skills, gain increased confidence and create lifelong memories.
Whether you’re a keen sailor or a complete novice this summer sailing adventure offers you the chance to challenge yourself and have fun!
You can also achieve your RYA Competent Crew qualification and tick off the residential section of your Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award, if this applies to you.
The beginning or end of your voyage may include stopovers along the South Coast such as Cowes, Yarmouth, Poole and Weymouth. Depending on the weather conditions, we may sail to Alderney, Sark or Guernsey in the Channel Islands. There could also be the opportunity to visit Cherbourg in France.
New skills. Increased confidence. New friendships. Memories.
Throughout the week, you’ll experience steering a yacht, night sailing, sail handling, ropework as well as learning how to keep safe onboard.
We divide the crew into two teams (watches)– traditionally, known as Port and Starboard. In your watches, you’ll take it in turns to be involved in all aspects of sailing the Challenger from looking after her to cooking and cleaning.
You’ll also experience plenty of offshore sailing (out of sight of land). This voyage is a great opportunity to escape from it all, build your confidence and widen your sailing experience.
And if all this isn’t enough… We want you to know, that our adult sailing experiences give you an exhilarating journey that directly enables more young people to benefit from our transformational youth development programme.
The cost of your RYA Competent Crew certificate is included in the price.
RYA logbooks are available for purchase onboard at a cost of £6 (Skippers are only able to take cash for this).
All voyages of four nights or more qualify for the residential section of the DofE Gold Award. Please let our Reservations Team know before sailing if you want to use the voyage for this.
The Skipper will determine the route depending on weather and conditions.
There’s a possibility you could be recommended by the Skipper to come back and volunteer as a Watch Assistant or Watch Leader for future Tall Ships Youth Trust voyages.
Meals onboard are included.
You’ll need to present a valid passport at the start of the voyage.
You must adhere to the Channel Islands and French travel restrictions and meet the country’s entry requirements in relation to Covid-19 (see links below for full details. These are regularly updated and we advise you check at the time of booking and again before travelling).
Our own Covid-19 sailing processes can be read here. Further information is also included with your joining instructions (sent via email) closer to your voyage date.
