Voyage highlights

Explore the beautiful Canary Islands this December onboard an iconic Challenger
Experience adrenaline-fuelled sailing between diverse coastlines
Your participation in this voyage will directly benefit our vital work with young people aged 12-25
No previous sailing experience needed

This voyage is the perfect wintertime escape for those in search of a little sun, sea and sand.

Your adventure will start and finish from Santa Cruz port in Tenerife, which is situated in the middle of the Canary Islands. The islands are in the Atlantic Ocean — 100km west of Morocco and boast a subtropical climate. Between November and February, the climate is mainly sunny and warm, with temperatures rarely going below 18 degrees. The sea temperature is consistently reported to be close to 22 degrees.

Together with like-minded individuals aged 18-80, you’ll spend full days sailing onboard one of our iconic Challenger yachts and will quickly bond and work as one crew.

You’ll enjoy exhilarating sailing between the diverse coastlines and varied landscapes of the islands, which have long been enjoyed by sailors for their stronger winds and acceleration zones.

To top it all off, your adventure will directly support our life-changing youth development work. Proceeds from our adult voyages boost our charity’s vital work with young people aged 12-25.

Places you'll visit

In between some thrilling sailing there will be time to explore the islands.

The Canary Islands include cliffs, sandy beaches, fertile farmlands, craggy mountains, olive groves and rocky coves. Each of the coastal regions has its own unique character.

Possible stopovers include, the pristine paradise of La Palma, the magical natural spaces of La Gomera and Tenerife where you can visit its famous volcano and national park, Mount Teide, which is highest point in Spain, with a summit at 3.718 metres above sea level.

Post your departure in Santa Cruz de Tenerife the boat will undergo checks and preparation in readiness to do it all again from Wednesday 28 December. So, if you fancy an extended stay in the Canaries, click here for more details.

If you’re interested in more than one Canary voyage, you can take advantage of an exclusive price package. Contact our Reservations team for more information: reservations@tallships.org

Takeaways from your sailing adventure

New skills. Increased confidence. New friendships. Winter sun!

Onboard and ashore there will be plenty of opportunities to explore and capture memories, so be sure to pack your camera! In addition, to the stunning land and seascapes, you may spot dolphins, seals and fin whales.

Over the course of the trip, you’ll experience steering a yacht, sail handling, ropework, as well as learning how to keep safe onboard.

We divide the crew into two teams (watches) – traditionally, known as Port and Starboard. In your watches, you’ll take it in turns to be involved in all aspects of sailing the Challenger from looking after her to cooking and cleaning.
