This three-night voyage starting and ending in Portsmouth is a fantastic opportunity to build up your sea miles and night hours as well as expand your sailing experience in potentially challenging conditions.
This is the perfect opportunity to gain experience following the RYA Competent Crew course or if you are working towards your Day Skipper qualification.
Also suitable for those that have sailing qualifications and want to refresh their skills or simply use it as a great way of sailing with like-minded people.
Depending on group dynamics and weather conditions, you can expect to log between 200 – 250 nautical miles.
Our Challengers are 72ft ocean-going steel yachts, constructed to withstand the Southern Ocean. Launched in 2000, they raced round the world in two editions of the BT Global Challenge, the route taking them against prevailing winds and currents; this means that our Challengers are the perfect vessel for this type of voyage and will make it an exhilarating and memorable experience.
On board, you’ll meet like-minded individuals aged 16 to 80, from all backgrounds and walks of life, who you’ll work together with to crew the yacht.
Plus, you’ll be supporting our life-changing youth development work. Proceeds from our adult voyages support our charity’s vital work with young people aged 12-25.
The focus of this short voyage is logging miles and night hours; however the skipper may decide to plan a stopover in the Solent or along the Jurassic coast. If the winds are suitable, a channel crossing to Alderney or Guernsey might be an option.

Throughout the long weekend, you’ll plan and execute a significant passage, including overnight sailing in a watch system.
You will work with your crew in two watches to run the vessel, taking responsibility for deck and domestic duties, under the watchful eyes of your professional skipper, mate and experienced volunteer watch leaders.
This is a great way to build your confidence, log miles and widen your sailing experience over a long weekend away.
And if all this isn’t enough… We want you to know, that our adult sailing experiences give you an exhilarating journey that directly enables more young people to benefit from our transformational youth development programme.
The Skipper will determine the final route depending on weather and other variables.
