THE NEW FLAGSHIP We have launched an appeal to raise £5m to add a new Flagship to our fleet. A 24-berth flagship would be the optimum size for larger groups of young people and keep the running costs affordable, and therefore self-sustaining. We envisage a schooner-type vessel, akin to the Sir Winston Churchill and Malcolm Miller that operated when we first started over 60 years ago. Raising a total of £5m will enable us to: Buy a vessel on the open market Re-engineer the internal layout to take groups of young people Buy the equipment needed to ensure she meets Maritime and Coastguard Agency standards. It will take the charity to where we have increased voyage capacity, no liabilities, and a bursary fund to draw upon for young people in exceptional hardship.
