WHY TALL SHIPS YOUTH TRUST?
I grew up by the sea, started sailing some 40 years ago, and have loved being out on the water ever since. A sailing boat is a unique environment, often challenging, always changing, and demanding care and great teamwork from its crew. Sail training provides young people with so much more than the skills required to sail. Together, they learn about themselves, what they’re capable of and how to communicate better with one another.
I’ve been a trustee with Tall Ships Youth Trust since 2018. I enjoy being part of a charity that helps young people to experience life at sea and using my expertise to help ensure our values of inclusion, adventure and excellence run through everything we do. I recently supported the staff team in delivering a major CRM project upgrade to improve how the charity manages its information.
BACKGROUND
I’ve spent more than 20 years defining business operations, information systems and technology strategies in public sector, commercial and third-sector organisations, working at a senior level for the likes of Toshiba, Alliance Boots and Grant Thornton, and also as an independent consultant.
My experience spans successful delivery of major projects, including business change, IT infrastructure, software development and implementation, and managing ongoing IT Services. Over half my work in recent years has been supporting charities with projects to improve their Finance and CRM systems and make the best use of IT, especially relevant in a post-Covid world.
I’m also a qualified RYA Yachtmaster Instructor and teach sailing in the UK and abroad.
