WHY TALL SHIPS YOUTH TRUST?

Having been involved in the creation of the Roundhouse charity as a member of the development council, I realised how important it was to support disadvantaged youngsters. Being a trustee of the Tall Ships has enabled me to combine helping young people with my passion for sailing. I remember when I went on a sailing voyage when I was young and how that made a lasting impression on me. We were a very diverse group and thought we were learning to sail but we learned so much more than that – collaboration, communication and team building amongst other life skills. I am keen to enable others to have the same experience.

BACKGROUND

After a training in engineering and accountancy I moved into providing full service management for clients including Peter Sellers, George Harrison and the Monty Python team. This led to being involved in many exciting projects including setting up HandMade Films to make ‘Monty Python’s Life of Brian’ in 1979. I moved on to working at board level in media groups including Viacom/MTV and the Chrysalis Group where I was CEO. I am now a non-executive director and mentor, and played a key role in setting up Pinewood Malaysia Studios. Outside work I race my 14 foot sailing skiff at international level and go yacht racing and cruising with my wife and daughter.
