WHY TALL SHIPS YOUTH TRUST?

I believe that it is important to provide development opportunities to disadvantaged young people to enable them to become confident, resilient and realise their full potential. Tall Ships Youth Trust has a fantastic legacy of supporting young people through transformational residential voyages. I was particularly impressed with the STEM and the Sea voyages providing life skills to all-girl crews of Year 10+ girls. I am familiar with the benefits of the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme provided by Tall Ships Youth Trust, as my daughters have all completed this at school.

As a school governor, I can see that support is needed for our young people now more than ever given the challenging economic environment and anxiety caused by learning difficulties, pressures of home life, covid and other social factors. I have supported the development of young people and promoted diversity and inclusion through personal, corporate, and voluntary work.

I have grown up daughters who enjoy swimming and diving in the sea, and we have spent some great family holidays at Trinity House lighthouses! I am passionate about young people and providing them with opportunities that may not otherwise be available to all.

BACKGROUND

I have broad commercial and legal expertise, as well as experience of the charity sector. My career as a senior lawyer spans more than 25 years in the global banking and fund management sector, working for US, Japanese, French and UK institutions, as well as the multi-lateral development investment bank EBRD (European Bank for Reconstruction and Development).

I then moved to The Fairtrade Foundation where I provided legal advice on charities, programmes, commercial and development work. I am now an advisor at Nest Insight, a public-benefit research and innovation centre.

I am very excited to be joining Tall Ships Youth Trust in 2023 and participating in the next phase of its strategic development.
