Please tell us a bit about yourself
I’ve been sailing since I can remember and have been involved in the sail training sector for 16 years. If I’m not on the water or in the water, I will be found on a beach or up a hill. I love going hiking and camping and finding new remote beaches for sunrise breakfasts. When indoors, I like to do yoga, crochet which is mostly hats, and I’m getting better at sewing – last year I made a pair of trousers!
I have worked in the charity sector for seven years, predominately in fundraising and charity development. Before that I worked as an engineering geologist, so if you’re out a walk or on a boat with me, be prepared to learn about the landscape around you!
Please tell us a bit about your role at Tall Ships Youth Trust?
My role as Philanthropy and Fundraising/Corporate Lead involves working with individuals and companies who are significantly supporting TSYT. I enjoy the variety of this role and building relationships with people who believe in our work.
What has been your most memorable moment at Tall Ships Youth Trust?
I’ve not been in the team very long but I’ve most enjoyed reading the feedback from young people and learning about the impacts their voyage has had on them. I also enjoyed meeting two TSYT young ambassadors during my first week.
What is one thing you think people should know about Tall Ships Youth Trust?
It’s not just about the sailing, it’s about learning to cook, or meeting new people, or seeing something new for the first time, like a sea bird or quirky cove only reached by the sea. Sailing is the way to expand your horizon, figuratively and literally.
Please describe your job in three words
Rewarding, inspiring, diverse.
If you were famous, what would you be famous for?
My ability to declutter and organise a room or house. Moving house, give me tea and cake and it’ll be done in a day!
