Please tell us a bit about yourself
I come from a marketing background and have worked for a variety of organisations including a supplier of outdoor adventure equipment, a supplier of power tools and equipment and Jamie at Home – a party plan company selling Jamie Oliver’s homeware products. I joined Tall Ships in 2012 as a fundraiser as I wanted a new challenge.
I have two boys and a springer spaniel and when not at work I love spending time with my family – we like going to Devon and Cornwall as much as we can.
I also LOVE Take That!
Please tell us a bit about your role at Tall Ships Youth Trust
I am the Grants Officer – I apply to trusts, foundations and other organisations to raise bursary funding for young people and provide equipment for the vessels.
The role is very full-on! I process over a hundred applications every month and have had to grow a thick skin to cope with the knock-backs. However, when I see how the young people have directly benefited from the funds I have applied for, it is all worthwhile!
What has been your most memorable moment at Tall Ships Youth Trust?
There have been a few… hearing the success stories of young people keeps me motivated though.
What is one thing you think people should know about Tall Ships Youth Trust?
Everyone at Tall Ships Youth Trust, from the office team, to the crew onboard, to our volunteers, is striving to achieve the same goal – to provide young people with genuinely life-changing opportunities.
Please describe your job in three words
Challenging. Engrossing. Rewarding.
If you were famous, what would you be famous for?
Are you saying you don’t know who I am?!
