Tall Ships Youth Trust wins ‘Charity of the Year’ at British Yachting Awards
Tall Ships Youth Trust (TSYT) was awarded ‘Charity of the Year’ at this year’s British Yachting Awards, which were held at the Royal Thames Yacht Club (RTYC) in London earlier this week.
The awards, organised by Sailing Today with Yachts and Yachting magazine, are an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of the yachting world over the past year.
TSYT is the UK’s oldest and largest youth development sail training charity. TSYT empowers young people, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds to realise their full potential, supporting them on their journey to adulthood and for some, careers in the maritime sector and the blue economy.
The charity owns four Challenger yachts, which operate all-year-round to provide transformational adventures for young people aged 12-25 from across the UK. The trust’s Challenger yachts were all built in 2000 and are famous for having raced twice round the world, as part of the Global Challenge races.
TSYT’s Chair, David Aisher and CEO, Alastair Floyd (pictured below) as well as other TSYT representatives, attended the awards ceremony at the RTYC on Monday evening (28 November). Before accepting the award, the CEO gave a speech about the positive and life-changing impact of the charity’s youth development voyages.

Following the ‘Charity of the Year’ award, Sailing Today with Yachts and Yachting magazine also announced Tall Ships Youth Trust as its official charity partner for 2023. This means TSYT will receive regular print and digital editorial coverage over the year, helping to promote its vital work.
TSYT CEO, Alastair Floyd, said: “We’re thrilled and honoured to have received the ‘Charity of the Year’ award and we’re equally delighted to have been chosen as the magazine’s official charity partner for 2023.
“It’s a great publication with a dynamic and dedicated readership. We want to increase our reach and gain further awareness to help even more young people from across the UK, which is possible with great partnerships like this one with Sailing Today with Yachts and Yachting magazine.”
