Salmon Youth Centre Marks Final Voyage on Tenacity of Bolton with TSYT
6 young people aged 13-16 from Salmon Youth Centre in inner London joined us for the last voyage on Tenacity of Bolton (the Ketch), on a 4-night Exploration along the Solent.
The vessel was built over nine years by the students and staff at Bolton School, along with help from parents, volunteers, and the local community, as a way of marking the new Millennium. It was completed in May 2007.
We were gifted the vessel in 2014, and it provided an excellent environment for sail training and youth development. This opportunity allowed us to expand our fleet and support more young people. The Tenacity of Bolton completed a total of 127 voyages and benefited 770 young people.
10 years on, we have concluded that Tenacity of Bolton no longer meets the needs of our programme. Therefore, we plan to retire her from the fleet.
Our long-term plan is to expand our Challenger fleet to increase the number of young people we can support and improve the quality of our voyage experiences.
In the interim, we will rent, borrow or lease a smaller-sized vessel, which would be used mainly for DofE voyages and crew training.
We hope that Tenacity of Bolton will continue voyaging with young people around the UK with another organisation from 2025.
