"During those first couple of weeks back on dry land, I would have given anything to be back on board and I'm now just looking forward to the next time! I’ve decided that if I can cope with a voyage, I can cope with anything. Thank you for the faith you have in me and have given to me." Khara, 19, High Wycombe

WHAT TO EXPECT

Our youth voyages are split into two age groups, 12 to 15 and 16 to 25. They offer the opportunity to embark on a sail training adventure, broadening horizons whilst meeting likeminded young people.

The majority of our voyages require no prior sailing experience. You can join us as a complete novice or an experienced sailor. With our dedicated skippers, mates and volunteers, we can also cater for young people with special needs.

As well as learning to sail, you will be fully integrated into the crew, responsible for running the vessel 24/7. This includes navigation and chart reading, assisting in the kitchen (on board we call this a galley) and helping to maintain the vessel.

But it’s more than life at sea, you will leave with new friends and enthusiasm for life. You will have more confidence in yourself, take challenges head-on, overcome hurdles and be willing to take on new responsibilities.

YOUTH VOLUNTEERING

Many of our Youth Crew can’t wait to get straight back on board after their voyage. Some even come back and join us as Volunteers. It is a great way to spend your free time. It is also a fantastic addition to any CV when applying for schools, colleges, universities and future jobs.
