I wanted to be involved with one charity alongside my board work and Tall Ships hits the spot for me. I have always enjoyed helping others develop and giving youngsters opportunity is key to this. I believe in inclusion and taking responsibility for yourself. I was fortunate to be able to learn a lot through sailing as a youngster. So when the opportunity at Tall Ships appeared, what could be better? I get a real kick out of seeing how the many youngsters (from whatever background) who come our way, grow through their experience with us and set out from the quay side with a real sense of purpose to make their lives better. This is motivating for all of us!

I had a challenging and exciting career with Ernst & Young based mostly in London but also with spells in Edinburgh, Seattle, US and the Midlands. I worked with a host of companies, including household names such as BP, Bass and Intercontinental Hotels. I left EY in 2009 to build a career in the board room and now chair two UK listed public companies and am non executive of two others. Outside work I enjoy time with my long supportive wife and three grown up sons. Sport features prominently - I still do a bit of competitive sailing and enjoy golf and skiing.
