Heather Allan Please tell us a bit about yourself I came to Tall Ships in September 2019; having had an eclectic mix of jobs. I was at Chichester Festival Theatre for 13 years, stewarding mid-value donors. I saw some amazing productions but nothing compares to when you see a group of young people return from a voyage – their exuberance and enthusiasm is infectious and wonderful to witness. Please tell us a bit about your role at Tall Ships Youth Trust I am the Fundraising Administrative Assistant. I support both the Fundraising Officer and the Grants Officer; this involves financial reporting, research, grant applications and all things admin! What has been your most memorable moment at Tall Ships Youth Trust? Having never sailed before in my life, I went on a day sail in October 2019. It was a force 8, and one of the crew happily said that we were on the right side of dangerous! It was exhausting but exhilarating on the same level. I kind of got how the young people must feel; you arrive as strangers but you have to work together as a team, which breaks down all sorts of barriers. What is one thing you think people should know about Tall Ships Youth Trust? That a voyage for disadvantaged young people can really turn their lives around; show them opportunity and they make friends for life. Please describe your job in three words Busy, diverse, rewarding If you were famous, what would you be famous for? For managing a boys’ football team – was definitely channelling my inner Alex Ferguson!
