Get a taste of adventure and set sail for an unforgettable family day out.

Whether you are a complete novice looking for something different to do this summer or a keen sailor wanting to experience the thrill of sailing a 72ft Challenger racing yacht, our day sails are guaranteed to be enjoyed by the whole family.

You will begin the day in Gunwharf Quays before heading into one of the most famous sailing waters in the world, the Solent. With the wind in your hair everyone will have the chance to get hands-on and learn how to handle these iconic yachts. Of course, if you would prefer to sit back and let the crew take care of the sailing whilst you enjoy the salty sea air, that’s ok too!

Having hoisted the sails, the morning will be spent covering the basics of sailing before breaking for a light lunch at sea. You will continue sailing throughout the afternoon and head back to Gunwharf Quays.

Over the course of the day you will discover the history of our iconic Challenger yachts – which have all raced around the world twice – and have the chance to set the sails, tack, gybe and event steer the boat!

Did you know by sailing with Tall Ships you will be supporting vulnerable young people from all over the UK? Proceeds from these voyages help to fund our charity's highly effective Youth Work, which offers an adrenaline-charged catalyst for change in those aged 12 to 25. This isn’t just a sailing experience, it is an exhilarating, big-hearted, philanthropic journey.

Covid-19 guidance

Sailing has never been risk-free, so we are used to assessing and managing risk, and for us, Covid-19 is no different. Tall Ships is following – and in some cases exceeding – the Royal Yachting Association and Government guidelines to reduce the risks of infection to the lowest possible level. We  take all practical measures to ensure that those who are sailing with us arrive in good health, join a boat which has been sanitised  and, to the extent possible, adhere to the contemporary hygiene and social distancing guidelines on board.

Please note that to ensure the safety of everyone on board, you will be asked to read and sign our Voyage Crew Information form and carry out a Covid test and social distance three days before joining the boat.

Please watch our Covid-19 safety video below.
