Challenger 1 – Voyage of Empowerment – Plymouth to Portsmouth

By Tall Ships - April 25th, 2023 | Posted in Voyager blogs No comments

This week onboard Challenger 1, we have a group of young people aged 13-15, who have previously sailed with us joining us on one of our first Voyages of Empowerment!

Check out their blog to see what they’ve been getting up to.

Day 3

Thursday 27

Today we went to Weymouth from Brixham, which was more than 45 miles. We put up all of the sails, it was long and tiring, but we had a nice fish and chips afterwards, so worth it.

It was raining most of the day, but we came inside to make some pasties and beans for lunch.

The group dynamic made this long voyage in very trying conditions, fun! It rained for seven hours and blew up much more strongly than predicted. Still spirits were high upon arrival, and a chip supper and hot showers soothed all wounds.

Tomorrow looks brighter, shorter and flatter due to a change in the weather, eggs for breakfast and the promise of more dolphins. ????

Day 4

Friday 28

We started our day at 8:00 am. We then progressed to eat breakfast which was, the potato cakes, bacon and bubble and squeak. Then we washed up/prepped the deck. We then went for a walk around Weymouth to be back for 10:30. We went to the arcade and many a prize was won! Then Tesco, also a toy shop, speaking of the bow and arrow, who saw it last??

We then left for Yarmouth. The sun was out and the wind behind us, this caused high spirits for all. After putting the Mainsail up, we had a heated debate as to whether penguins are a bird or a seal in a tuxedo.

We went out to the bow to watch the scenic view as we passed The Needles, what a sight!

We arrived at Yarmouth around 18:00.

We then went to the showers that were really good…. Other than the fact that the floor made someone’s trousers wet… it’s okay, we don’t understand how either.

And then it was time for a dinner of chicken curry, or if you’re a vegetarian…  a veggie curry. See you tomorrow for the second to last day of our adventure.
