Hull Unit Cadets join us for a 4-night Exploration voyage. Follow their journey below.

Day 1

Saturday, 26 October

Today’s venturous day started at 6.15 in good ol Hull. Our train to Portsmouth was cancelled but we eventually arrived in Portsmouth at 12.20. Once we got on board we went through some very entertaining briefs and ah hoy we set sail. I helmed for a good chunk of time. Professional as always.

We went through some basic setting sails, staysail. We took it down as practice with different people in different roles. Winches, how they work and how to use them correctly. Aswell as other work around the boat. Once we reached the holy land of Cowes, no one knew what they were doing for docking up. However, the great staff helped, and we managed to dock safely. James Bond style.

After arriving in Cowes, we began operation meatball. I as head chef ran the cooking of our fabulous, delicious, extravagant scran. I cooked the meatballs, pasta, sauce, Amirs halal sausages. What a chef I am, get me on Hell’s Kitchen. After clean-up was finished, I got into my hello kitty pjs and relaxed.

Day 3

Monday, 28 October

Today’s daring day started at 7:15 in Yarmouth where we had our delicious breakfast, toast and cereal. We then got the ship ready for departure and left Yarmouth at 9:30am. We then sailed alongside the English Channel to Poole.

The sea was extremely rough and was very difficult to sail in as we were going against the wind in the ‘no go zone’. We arrived in Poole at around 14:00 and docked the ship to the pontoon. While we were sailing, we had our main sail up as the winds were strong and could help us go faster. However, it was tough to get the main sail up due to the weight, it was hard to pull up and even with 2 ‘sweaters’, 2 people pulling in the slack and multiple people getting ready to swap so that people don’t get too tired, it took us about 5 minutes to pull it up to the correct height.  At 12:48am we had to switch the fuel tank to the forward starboard fuel tank. Once, we arrived we also switched the water to the forward port tank. (as the logbook says). After that we had a pumpkin carving competition to see who could make the best pumpkin with only a £10 budget. Port watch won the competition with 2/3 marks as starboard watch got creativity mark
