Join an iconic Challenger and participate in the ASTO Mayflower Small Ships Race with up to 30 other vessels. Competitors will race from Southampton to Dartmouth, with the majority of the crews being under 25 years of age.

After getting to know your crew and each other you will head out to start your training out in the Solent before heading out to the start line on Monday.

Depending on the weather conditions and racecourse set, it will be a 2 day race down to Dartmouth along the scenic South Coast. With the guidance of our crew you will learn how to race a Challenger.

The crew will fall into a watch pattern to ensure everyone gets to rest, eat and relax during the race. But rest assured, everyone will be up on deck when you cross the finish line and head into Dartmouth for a warm welcome, followed by the prize giving which will take place on Thursday.

You will learn the fundamental aspects of sailing and by the end of the voyage you will have experienced steering a yacht, sail handling, ropework, be aware of safety on board and racing techniques.

There is a possibility you could be recommended to the Trust by the Skipper to come back and volunteer as a Watch Assistant or Watch Leader for future Tall Ships voyages.

Whilst every effort will be made to deliver the above voyage content sometimes, due to weather and crew’s ability, the content may need to change. Please see below for our full Conditions of Booking.
