What types of gifts can I make in my will?

Expand

There are three main gift types to consider when leaving a gift in your will:

Pecuniary gifts

A gift of a fixed sum of money. The value of a pecuniary gift will decrease over time, as the cost of living increases.

Residuary gifts

A gift of the ‘residue’ of the estate. The residue is what is left after all other gifts, debts, funeral expenses, certain other costs and tax have been deducted.

Specific gifts

Actual items for instance, a piece of jewellery, furniture, a painting, buildings, boats, land, house contents, shares, etc..

Your solicitor will be able to explain the different gift types you can make in your will.

What is the best way to remember Tall Ships in my will?

Expand

Often the best way to support charities is with a residuary gift as it means the value of the gift will not change due to inflation. Your solicitor, or will writer, will be able to discuss the best options for your particular circumstances.
