I have been inspired by the magic that sailing with the trust can do for young people. I have found the transformation stories often from the mothers of teenagers, many from inner cities - quite inspiring. My own son Giles absolutely loved his time sailing with the Trust in 2010. After his first week, he told me 'Dad that was the best week of my life'.

Unknown to me five months later, he managed to organise and fund another sail with the Trust. Prior to this second week, I was a little concerned his experience wouldn't be matched. His answer at the end of the week was 'Dad, that was even better'.

He is still in touch with those sailing mates eight years later.

I am a professional racing sailor who has won multiple World and European Championships. As a pro-navigator I have raced at international level for 25 years and raced and worked with many of the best sailors in the world. I have completed 17 Fastnet Races, 10 Sydney to Hobarts and 20 Trans-Atlantic's. I left the Royal Navy in 1999 after a varied career mainly in the Fleet Air Arm. I saw action in several war zones as a Commando helicopter pilot. Later as the Lynx helicopter display pilot I was cleared to 'loop the loop' as part of his flying display.
