Challenger Fleet The Fleet

Welcome on board our Challenger Fleet

Sailing onboard the Challengers is an amazing experience. Our fleet of four identical 72ft yachts will be a  new adventure for you, regardless of whether you are a novice sailor, have previously sailed on the Brig or even have your own 30ft cruising yacht!

Without doubt the Challengers are exhilarating and great fun to sail, so what’s it like on board?

  • They were designed by world renowned designer Rob Humphreys and built in 2000.
  • These yachts have raced around the world and they are perfect for sail training as they provide an exciting but extremely safe environment for everyone onboard.
  • You’ll notice their speed and acceleration under sail.
  • You’ll get a really good understanding of sailing principles and trimming sails.
  • Down below is warm and cosy in the winter but also light and airy in the summer. There is a large saloon and galley area and a comfortable 'open style' sleeping area, perfect for tired sailors.
  • The Challengers are very hands on and very responsive, so you will work as part of a watch (team).
Teamwork is required to sail the yacht – everything takes at least 2 people!

But first and foremost, the Challenger Fleet instils the same professional Tall Ships Youth Trust ethos that we maintain on the Brig. The Challengers operate to the highest level of safety procedures and all voyage crew undergo thorough safety training and vessel familiarisation before setting sail. Safety harness, lifejackets and good quality waterproofs are provided. Code’s of conduct are in place and our Permanent/Volunteer Crew cultivate a positive, supportive and encouraging atmosphere on board.

So why not give the Challengers a go!
